Obverse: [SEV]ERVS PIVS AVG, laureate and draped bust of Septimius Severus right. Reverse: INDVLGENTIA AVGG around, IN CARTH in exergue; Dea Caelestis seated sideways on a lion walking right, head turned right, holding thunderbolt and transverse sceptre; below, water flows from a rock. This extremely rare variant shows Severus with a draped bust, normally reserved for Caracalla on this reverse type. A probable engraver’s error, making this coin highly desirable.
