Obverse: M AVR ANTON CAES PONTIF – draped, bare-headed bust right. Reverse: IMPERII FELICITAS – Felicitas standing left, holding a caduceus and a child in her arms (RIC IV 9; sometimes interpreted in literature as Pietas). Caracalla (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus) was made Caesar in 196 and Augustus in 198. After his father Septimius Severus died, he had his brother Geta killed in 211; in 212 he issued the Constitutio Antoniniana, granting Roman citizenship to most free inhabitants of the empire.
