Obverse: CAES AVG F DOMIT COS II — Laureate head of Domitian right; youthful features, struck while he served as Caesar under his father Vespasian. Reverse: Domitian, togate, riding left on a prancing horse, holding sceptre in left hand and raising right in salute. A rare and expressive type commemorating Domitian’s role in the triumphal procession after the Judaean War. Struck in AD 73, this denarius belongs to the celebrated Judaea Capta coinage series. Following the Roman victory in the Jewish revolt, Domitian rode a “splendidly adorned white horse” in the triumphal parade through Rome. This issue immortalises his presence in that procession — projecting him as the imperial heir, strong, visible, and central to Flavian propaganda. Rare compared to other Domitian denarii, it stands as a direct witness to one of Rome’s most iconic triumphs.
