Obverse: IVLIA MAESA AVG – draped bust right. Reverse: SAECVLI FELICITAS – Felicitas standing facing (head left), holding a patera over a lighted altar in the right hand, and a staff/scepter (possibly a caduceus) in the left. Julia Maesa, sister of Julia Domna and grandmother of Elagabalus and Severus Alexander, engineered the overthrow of Macrinus in AD 218 and placed Elagabalus on the throne. After his assassination in 222 she secured the accession of Severus Alexander, acting as a key power at court. The legend SAECVLI FELICITAS proclaims prosperity and good fortune under her political influence.
