This denarius features Julia Maesa, grandmother of Emperors Elagabalus and Severus Alexander, draped and diademed on the obverse. The reverse depicts the goddess Venus Caelestis holding an apple and a sceptre, with a star in the field. The inscription VENVS CAELESTIS refers to the celestial Venus and her divine protection over the imperial family.
