Bronze follis of Licinius II (317–324 AD), struck at Heraclea in the final years of Licinian rule. Obverse shows a laureate, cuirassed bust left, bearing the name D N VAL LICIN LICINIVS NOB C. Reverse type IOVI CONSERVATORI, with Jupiter standing left, holding Victory on globe and resting on sceptre. Classified as RIC VII 54. Licinius II was elevated to Caesar as a child, intended as successor during the tense coexistence of Constantine and Licinius. This coinage was issued shortly before the civil war of 324 AD, which ended the Licinian Dynasty. Coins of this period represent the last phase of Licinian imperial authority before Constantine consolidated power across the Roman Empire.
