About the emperor (2–3 sentences): The last ruler of the Severan dynasty, Severus Alexander governed as a young emperor under the strong influence of his mother Julia Mamaea. He pursued cooperation with the Senate and sought stability while facing pressure from the Sasanians and Germanic frontier. In AD 235 he was killed by mutinous troops near Mogontiacum (Mainz), a turning point that ushered in the Third-Century Crisis.
