This denarius features the young Emperor Elagabalus with a laurel wreath on the obverse. The reverse depicts the goddess Providentia standing left, holding a globe in her right hand and a scepter in her left. The legend PROVIDENTIA AVG symbolizes imperial foresight and the stability of the Roman Empire. History: Born in 203 AD, Elagabalus ruled from 218 to 222 AD and is remembered for his religious reforms and his devotion to the sun god Elagabal. His extravagant court life and controversial policies ultimately led to his assassination at the age of just 18.
