Obverse: Laureate head of Vespasian right; mature features, strong neck, short cropped hair typical of early Flavian portraiture. Reverse: CONCORDIA AVG. Concordia standing (usually left-facing), holding a large cornucopia in one hand and a patera/sceptre in the other — symbol of unity, stability and political harmony after the civil war of AD 69. Historical Note Struck during the consolidation of Flavian power, this type proclaims restored harmony in the empire following the Year of the Four Emperors. Concordia represents peace between army, senate and people — a crucial message for Vespasian as he rebuilt Rome after civil conflict and the Judaean War.
